CUSTOM JEWELLER: MEN'S FAMILY RING
I was commissioned to design a one of a kind men's family ring and the result is pretty spectacular. The client approached me about making a ring that would reflect his family's history and get passed down from generation to generation. Designing a piece you know is intended to become a family heirloom is a very rewarding experience and always a special project.
The ring incorporates the family name in Cyrillic alphabet and meaningful emblems such as a Serbian cross indicative of the family's background, a maple leaf inscribed with the year the family came to Canada, and the initials and birth years of the grandfather, father, son, and a blank space to be filled by the future generation. My client wanted the ring to look aged so most of the surfaces are a textured matte finish and the edges are irregular in keeping with a rustic aesthetic.
The first step when designing custom jewellery is usually a hand drawn sketch. This bespoke ring was no exception. It was important to get the layout and proportions correct to ensure that all the desired components fit well, were visible and laid out in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Next we made the CAD renders:
Once those were approved, the ring was made in two tone gold and the final result was this unique men's family ring that will become a treasured heirloom and retain meaning for generations to come.
